Mex does not speak to her family. She has been estranged from them since her 21st birthday.
Education, Experience & Employment: What is your character’s level of education? Did they attend college, vocational school, or have any specialized training? What does your character do for a living? Are they employed or self-employed, and in what industry or profession? (Ensure you state all degrees, certifications, experience, current/previous employment information, etc.)
During high school she enrolled into a TAFE program - that counted towards her graduation units - studying Automotive Body Repair Technology (she figured since she wasn’t exactly the best at driving she could at least learn how to fix her own cars should she need to). After finishing high school Mex was unsure of what she wanted to do with her life; not from lack of desire but from wanting to do too much. She was interested in knowledge in general and in gaining different types of experiences. Her first job was waitressing and serving at her local cafe, eventually leaving when she realised she was given manager duties (organising shifts, taking and dealing with catering orders, ordering stock, etc…) without the intention of being given a manager role. She worked as a receptionist where she also obtained a certificate 3 in business. After obtaining her RSA certificate she worked part time as a bartender while studying part time in Entertainment Business Management. As of right now she’s unemployed as she’s in-between houses as she and her husband are moving to a new city.
Personality: Describe your character’s personality traits, both positive and negative. What are their strengths and weaknesses?
You’ll most likely be able to hear Mex before you see her. However throughout her lifetime she’s developed a lot of trust issues. Once you meet her you might find that she’s rude, stand-offish, blunt and distant. However if you manage to gain some of her trust she’ll try to be less rude. Her biggest strength is her ambition. When she has something in mind she will think of every possible way to achieve that goal and thinks through every decision. Her weakness is her inability to admit her wrongdoings, as well as her driving. As an introvert Mex prefers very small crowds. She also has an aversion to goodbyes so if she ever needs to leave or go somewhere she’ll most likely just leave without saying anything, this includes mid-conversations. Mex is very extremely loyal to a fault; if someone she cares about is in a tough situation she will always put herself on the line to help that person out regardless of what it takes. She will stand by those who are loyal to her through anything regardless of who’s at fault until they show disloyalty to her. Once she’s lost trust in someone that trust is gone forever.
Hobbies and Interests: What does your character enjoy doing in their free time? Any specific hobbies, interests, or passions?
Mex is the type of person who enjoys spending time by herself (especially after being in a crowd). She enjoys doing activities while blasting music in her ears to avoid unnecessary conversations. This is great for when she needs to do odd jobs here and there like tree cutting (as a strong Samoan woman she may not have ability to speak her language but she sure got the strength from her people).
Goals and Ambitions: What are your character’s long-term goals and ambitions in the city? What do they hope to achieve?
Although she has trouble trusting people, her goal is just to make sure she has a ‘village’ to support her. Growing up in a household that made her feel alone and inferior she longed to find a community of people she could trust where she didn’t have to second guess any acts of kindness, or watch her back.
Friends and Allies: Who are your character’s friends or allies in the city? Are there any specific groups or factions they are affiliated with?
Mex is very freshly new to the city so as of right now she has no allies or affiliations.
Enemies and Rivals: Does your character have any enemies or rivals, and what is the source of their conflicts?
Aside from her birth family and some people she rubbed the wrong way in her previous city she has no enemies or rivals… that she knows of.
Criminal Record: Has your character been involved in any criminal activities in the past? If so, what kind of activities have they been involved in?
Unfortunately she has a bit of a record. A couple counts of reckless driving (she was just driving normally to be fair), and also a couple counts of selling illegal substances (a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do’')
Personal Beliefs: What are your character’s personal beliefs, values, and ethics? Are they religious or politically inclined?
Mex does believe in God in the Christian sense, however she doesn’t practice any religions and she doesn’t go to church. She is also very oblivious to politics and knows next to nothing about them, which is surprising considering how much she loves to learn about anything and everything.
Relationships: Is your character in a romantic relationship or involved with anyone romantically? If so, who is their partner, and how did they meet?
Mex is married to her beloved husband Koko Nutty. They lived about 2 towns apart and met through mutual friends via social media in high school.
Physical Description: Describe your character’s physical appearance, including height, weight, hair colour, eye colour, and distinctive features.
Mex’s trademark is her long vibrant red hair (the dye is expensive but the commitment is real) and her long nails. She’s often questioned how she is so tall by men because she’s almost always wearing her favourite pair of heels (and no, she will not take them off if you ask, no matter how nicely). She has brown eyes, and is always wearing her favourite dark matte burgundy lipstick.
Backstory: Provide a detailed backstory of your character, including any significant life events, turning points, or experiences that have shaped who they are.
Mex grew up in a big Samoan family. She was the product of her mother’s infidelity, which was revealed when her mother admitted it during a fight with her non-biological dad as a way of getting one up on him.
They eventually sorted out their differences, however from that moment on she was often criticised and ridiculed by her family having been labeled a mistake and a physical reminder of infidelity. They often made her feel extremely inferior, and would constantly put her down. She was only allowed to leave the house to go to school, and when she got home was treated like a maid who had to cook and clean. She eventually began to believe the horrible things they would say to her, and thought she would never be anything other than a mistake.
When she met Koko, he made it his mission to make her believe otherwise. After high school she worked at a cafe and began saving to be able to move out, this of course angered her family who only called her selfish and refused to let her go. However since she was legally an adult, there was no reason for her to stay and continue to be treated the way she was treated.
When she had enough money she left and moved into a small granny flat with Koko, taking nothing with her but her phone. Since she believed she couldn’t be amount to anything she never even thought of what she wanted to do career wise, but now that she was free she couldn’t decide what she wanted to do, she was hungry for knowledge and hungry to finally be able to do what she wanted to do.
One day she received a message from someone she went to school with, congratulating her from moving out and becoming her own person and asking to meet up. They became close friends, close enough that Mex finally opened up about all the abuse she endured while living with her family. It was one night when she was supposed to have another dinner with her friend that she realised she was being set up. When she went, she realised it was an ambush. Where she expected to see an old classmate she saw her family instead, who wasted no time in verbally abusing her, yelling profanities and demanding how she had the nerve to ‘spread rumors’ about her own flesh and blood. It took a while for her to realise her ‘friend’ and other school mates were there in the back snickering. Shock had her frozen in place, she couldn’t do anything but stand there and listen. When sense finally came back she immediately left, crying into her husbands arms. Her trust was broken, and her heart was hurting. They knew the only thing they could do was move to another state and start fresh.
Mex had promised herself that no one would see her cry ever again, and she would never give anyone an opportunity to make her feel inferior or to betray her trust.
After settling in another city for quite some time, Mex was working a shift as a bartender at the bar. One drunk customer, thought himself a modern-day Casanova and began slurring some inappropriate pickup lines. After refusing multiple times, he called her a couple naughty names, and seemingly left. However when her shift ended he was outside waiting for her, she kneed him in the no-no area and told him to never come back to the bar. Unknowingly, he was a member of a gang in the area who apparently didn’t take too kindly to rejection, she was threatened daily and her property was continuously vandalized. Having had enough of this childish gang, she and Koko then moved to another state yet again.
Current Situation: What is your character’s current situation within the city? Are they new to the city, or have they been there for a while?
Very freshly new to the city with her husband.
